Betty Alem scored 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the field. Janaya Williams scored 9 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 4 assists.

The Phins are now 3-4 in the North Region and 6-11 overall. The Phins are one game behind Everett for 4th place heading into the second half of North Region play. Shoreline begins the second half tilt with a trip to Port Angeles on Wednesday, February 8th for a game against 1st place Peninsula. The Phins return home for the first time since January 21st with a home game against Whatcom on Saturday, February 11th at 2pm.

Men’s Basketball entered their game with Everett in a 4 way tie for 3rd place with Everett, Bellevue and Skagit Valley. In a very competitive North Region 7 of the 8 teams came into the final night of the first round within 3 games of each other. In the first half Everett and Shoreline took turns making runs at each other with neither team taking more than a 6 point lead. Shoreline led 38-35 at the half and ran out to a 19 point lead early in the second stanza. Everett slowly chipped away at the Shoreline lead eventually pulling within  4 points with a minute and a half to go in the game. On the ensuing possession Dana Abe hit a deep jumper and following a Shoreline defensive stop Anddrew Hawkins went 2-2 from the foul line to secure an 83-75  victory.

The Phins were led by Abe’s 34 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Abdul Mohamed scored 16 points on 6-6 shooting from the field to go with 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Ben Steinbrueck and Anddrew Hawkins combined for 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Jacob Perkins controlled the glass with 8 rebounds.

Shoreline is now 4-3 in the North Region and 11-7 overall. The Phins sit in a 4 way tie for 2nd place just 2 games back of first place Peninsula. Shoreline has a chance to close the gap on Peninsula in their next game – a road trip to Port Angeles to take on the Pirates on Wednesday, February 8th at 7pm. The Phins’ next home game is Saturday, February 11th at 4pm against Whatcom.

Men’s Basketball Takes Down 1st Place Peninsula – Women Drop 1 on the Road

The Shoreline Dolphins Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams traveled to Port Angeles to take on the Pirates of Peninsula College on Wednesday, February 8th. Our basketball teams have been road warriors with 4 straight away games during their North Region slate.

Men’s Basketball entered their contest with Peninsula in a 4 way tie for second place after the first round of North Region play. Peninsula completed the first round with a 6-1 record and a 2 game lead over the group chasing them for the top spot in the region – enough to earn the Pirates the #4 ranking in the latest Under Armour NWAC Coaches Poll. The Phins used a stifling defense to limit Peninsula to just 25% shooting and 51 points for the game. Although Shoreline only connected on 35% of their shots – the Phins did just enough to earn a tough 58-51 win on the road.

Shoreline was led by 22 points and 6 rebounds from Dana Abe. Ben Steinbrueck scored 8 points, including the game clinching 3 point shot in the final minute of play, and grabbed 6 rebounds. Jacob Perkins controlled the paint with 8 points and 6 rebounds while Anddrew Hawkins added 9 points. Abdul Mohamed turned in the performance of the game limiting Peninsula’s leading scorer to just 5 points on 2 for 15 shooting on the night.

In the midst of their 3 game win streak the Phins were recognized by the NWAC as Dana Abe was named the Under Armour Player of the Week for the entire NWAC. The Phins are now 5-3 in the North Region and  12-7 overall. Shoreline trails Peninsula by 1 game for 1st place and is currently in a 3 way tie for 2nd with Bellevue and Skagit Valley. The Phins return home for the first time since January 21st as they host Whatcom on Saturday, February 11th at 4pm.

After 4 games in North Region play Women’s Basketball found themselves in a 4 way tie for 1st place heading into their 4 game road trip. Unfortunately the road has not been kind to the Phins as Shoreline came into their game against Peninsula having dropped their last 3 games all by single digit deficits. The long road trip to Port Angeles had an effect on the Phins’ legs as they started slowly falling behind 6-29 after the 1st quarter. Shoreline could never recover from the early deficit as they could only manage 22% shooting for the game. The Phins eventually lost 44-83.

In the defeat the Phins were led by 13 points from Enjunay Jones-Lee. Janaya Williams led the Phins with 8 rebounds to go with her 5 points and 3 steals. Shoreline is now 3-5 in the North Region and trails Everett by 2 games for the 4th and final NWAC Tournament birth. The Phins host Whatcom on Saturday, February 11th at 2pm.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball played their last 4 games on the road but finally returned home to host Whatcom on Saturday, February 11th in two important North Region match ups. Both teams won their first round game against Whatcom with the Women defeating the Orcas by a score of 80-75 and the Men pulling out a 67-62 come from behind victory.

Women’s Basketball struggled in their road games away from the friendly confines of The Aquarium. The Phins came into Saturday having dropped their last 4 games and needing a win to stay in the NWAC playoff race. Shoreline needed all 40 minutes – plus a little extra – to get a tough 63-62 win. The Dolphins and the Orcas battled back and forth through the first 3 quarters – Shoreline held a 1 point lead after the first, but Whatcom would take a 5 point lead into the half. The Phins dominated the 3rd quarter holding Whatcom to just 8 points on their way to a 59-52 lead entering the 4th quarter. However, Whatcom was not done yet and exploded for a 20 point 4th quarter. The game was tied with a minute to go when the Phins produced a defensive stop and a much needed rebound from Paris Sanders. After a time out Enjunay Jones-Lee got the ball with less than 5 seconds remaining, she drove hard right and pulled up to shoot from just inside the 3 point line – her shot was off but she was fouled on the attempt. With no time remaining on the clock Jones-Lee stepped up to the line and hit the game winning free throw.

The Phins were led in scoring by Brea Woods who came off the bench to score 18 points all on 6 3-pointers. Jones-Lee finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Janaya Williams scored 7 points grabbed 7 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. Paris Sanders scored 5 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. With the win the Phins remain two games out of 4th place in the North Region. Shoreline is now 4-5 in the North region and 7-12 overall. The Phins travel to Edmonds on Wednesday, February 15th for a 5pm game.

Men’s Basketball entered their match up with Whatcom coming off a big win at 1st place Peninsula. The Phins fell behind 22-11 early in the 1st half and with leading scorer Dana Abe Shoreline relied on their bench to get back in the game. Payton Tirrell and Joe Ghebrehiwot each hit 2 3 pointers to help lead a come back that gave the Phins a 37-32 half time lead. The teams played each other close in the second half as the Phins held on for a 69-64 victory.

All 12 Shoreline players that entered the game scored for the Phins. Shoreline scored 37 points off the bench and in the balanced attack only Anddrew Hawkins made his way to double figures with 11 points to go with a team leading 7 rebounds. CJ Bussey and Ghebrehiwot each added 8 points. Ben Steinbrueck scored 5 points and led the team with 7 assists.

The win keeps Shoreline in a 2 way tie for 2nd place with Bellevue. Both teams trail Peninsula by 1 game for 1st place in the North Region standings. Shoreline is now 6-3 in the North Region and 13-7 overall. The Phins return to the road to take on Edmonds on Wednesday, February 15th at 7pm.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball traveled just down the road to Edmonds for a pivotal North Region contest on Wednesday, February 16th. Women’s Basketball has found themselves in a must-win situation since dropping a game at Peninsula to start the 2nd round of North Region play. After that loss the Phins dropped two games behind 4th place in the North Region standings, but Shoreline has performed well with their backs to the wall. On Saturday, February 11th the Phins pulled out a win over Whatcom and Shoreline kept their momentum with a big win over Edmonds. Shoreline dominated play from the jump winning 3 of 4 quarters and turned an 8 point half time lead into a comfortable 72-48 victory.

The Phins won every major statistical category. Shoreline shot 44% from the field and 30% from the 3 point line while holding Edmonds to just 30% shooting. The Phins won the rebounding battle 44-33 and forced 24 turn overs. Shoreline was led by Enjunay Jones-Lee’s 18 points. Brea Woods came off the bench to score 14 points. Paris Sanders scored 10 points to go with her 5 rebounds. Janaya Williams came close to her first triple double with 9 points, 11 rebounds and 8 steals.

With the win the Phins are now 5-5 in the North Region and 8-12 overall. Shoreline takes their 2 game winning streak on the road to Skagit Valley on Saturday, February 18th for a 5pm tip off. The Phins return home on Wednesday, February 22nd to take on Bellevue at 5:30pm – SCC is hosting “Pack the Stands Night” and the first 100 fans will get a Shoreline ‘Game Day” T Shirt.

Men’s Basketball found their stride in the North Region and entered Wednesday night’s game against Edmonds on a 4 game win streak. The Phins made it 5 straight and moved into a 3 way tie for 1st place with an 86-71 victory over Edmonds. Shoreline relied on their league leading defense to extend a 40-21 halftime lead into a 75-44 advantage half way through the 2nd half. Edmonds shot the ball well down the stretch and got within 14 points before falling by the 16 point margin.

Shoreline was led by Dana Abe’s 21 points and 8 rebounds. Joe Ghebrehiwot scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Anddrew Hawkins had a rough night shooting but led the team with 9 rebounds. Will Luckett and Jacob Perkins combined for 17 points and 11 rebounds. Payton Tirrell added 9 points.

The Phins are now 7-3 in the North Region and 14-7 overall. Shoreline is now in a 3 way tie for 1st place with Bellevue and Peninsula. Prior to their 5 game win streak the Phins had lost 2 in a row – one of those losses came against their next opponent the Skagit Valley Cardinals. Shoreline travels to Mt. Vernon to take on Skagit Valley on Saturday, February 18th at 7pm in their last road game of the season.

Men’s and Women’s Basketball made their final road trips of the season as they traveled to Mt. Vernon to take on Skagit Valley College. Both of our teams are in playoff contention as each game becomes more and more important down the stretch of the North Region schedule.

Women’s Basketball entered their contest with Skagit Valley just outside of the playoff picture – trailing Everett and Bellevue by 2 games with 4 to go. In their previous match up the Phins gave 1st place Skagit Valley one of their 2 losses in league. This time around the Phins never quite got in an offensive rhythm on the road. The Phins shot just 24% from the field and had 18 turnovers in the game. Shoreline never recovered from an 18-8 deficit after the first quarter eventually falling 41-71.

The Phins were led by Janaya Williams and her 14 points and 6 rebounds. Enjunay Jones-Lee added 11 points. Paris Sanders dominated the boards with 15 rebounds. The Phins are now 5-6 in the North Region and 8-13 overall. Shoreline trails Bellevue College by 2 games with 3 remaining. The Phins host Bellevue on Wednesday, February 22nd at 5:30pm in their biggest game of the year. The Phins face a must win situation as a loss would eliminate them from the NWAC Tournament. Wednesday night also marks the annual “Pack the Stands Night” as the first 100 fans will receive a Shoreline “Game Day” tshirt!

Men’s Basketball came into their game with Skagit on a 5 game win streak and in a 3 way tie for 1st place with Bellevue and Peninsula. In their first round match up Skagit beat the Phins in an overtime thriller by a final score of 85-82. Skagit started hot again on Wednesday taking a 9 point lead in the first half on 45% shooting. The Phins finished the 1st half on a little run to pull within 2 points at the break. In the 2nd half Shoreline tightened up their defense holding Skagit to just 26% shooting while not allowing a 3 point field goal. The Phins woke up offensively going 62% from the floor and 45% from 3 on their way to a 84-71 victory.

The Phins were led by 24 points from Dana Abe. Abe also added a team leading 8 rebounds. Anddrew Hawkins scored 13 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Jacob Perkins went 5-5 from the field to score 11 points with his 7 rebounds. Point Guard Ben Steinbrueck scored 11 points and led the team with 7 assists. Abdul Mohamed was the only other Phin in double firgures with 10 points.

The Phins are now 8-3 in the North Region and 15-7 overall. Shoreline remains in a tie for 1st place with Peninsula College with 3 games remaining in the league schedule. On Wednesday, February 22nd the Phins host Bellevue College at 7:30pm on “Pack the Stand Night”.

In front of a raucous crowd of faculty, staff, administration and students on “Pack the Stands Night” the Shoreline Men’s Basketball team rose to the top of the North Region standings. By defeating Bellevue College on Wednesday night the Phins won their 7th straight game and are now in sole possession of 1st place in the North Region standings. Shoreline once again relied on their league leading defense to secure the victory. The Phins held Bellevue to just 42% shooting and 23% from the 3 point line. Shoreline also forced 19 turnovers on the night and dominated the boards 42-31.

Shoreline took control of the game late in the 1st half going on a 10-2 run before the break. Bellevue scored the first bucket of the 2nd half to pull within 6 points, but the Phins answered with 3 pointers from Dana Abe and Ben Steinbrueck to extend their lead to 12. Shoreline went on to win by that same 12 point margin by a final score of 77-65. The Phins were led by 16 points and 8 rebounds from Abe. Abdul Mohamed added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Jacob Perkins scored 14 to go with 5 boards. Despite foul trouble Anddrew Hawkins scored 7 points and dished ut 5 assists. Derrik Dean led the bench with 9 points and 4 steals.

The Phins got some great news immediately following their game as news spread that Peninsula College had dropped a game to Skagit Valley giving the Phins sole possession of 1st place. Shoreline is now in the driver’s seat heading into the final week of North Region play. The Phins have clinched a spot in the NWAC Tourney and with 2 more wins they can seal the first North Region title in Men’s Basketball since 2010 and only the 4th in school history. Shoreline takes on Olympic College on Saturday, February 25th at 4pm. The Phins are now 9-3 in the North Region 16-7 overall. Shoreline was ranked #6 in the latest NWAC Under Armour Coaches Poll.

Women’s Basketball entered their game against Bellevue needing a win to stay alive in the playoff hunt. The Phins came into Wednesday night trailing Bellevue by 2 games with 3 games remaining in the North Region schedule. With their backs to the wall once again the Phins battled the visiting Bulldogs. Shoreline trailed by 3 points after the 1st quarter but narrowed their deficit to just 2 points at the half. The Phins trailed Bellevue 59-65 with about 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter when Bellevue orchestrated a huge run to close out the contest. Bellevue would end up winning the quarter 33-13 turning a tight 6 point lead into an 89-63 victory.

The Phins loss came despite a big effort from Enjunay Jones-Lee. Jones-Lee led the Phins with 26 points on 50% shooting from the floor and an 8-8 performance from the free throw line. Paris Sanders led the team with 9 rebounds to go with her 6 points. Janaya Williams scored 16 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and had 4 assists displaying her all around game. Brea Woods was the only other Phin in double figures with 10 points.

The loss drops Shoreline 3 games out of the 4th and final playoff spot thus eliminating them from contention with only 2 games remaining. Shoreline is 5-7 in the North region and 8-14 overall. The Phins host Olympic on Saturday, February 25th at 2pm.

Five members of the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams received All North Region honors for their effort on the basketball court, while three more student-athletes were recognized for their hard work in the class room.

Men’s Basketball won the North Region Title and swept all three major North Region awards. Dana Abe was named the North Region Most valuable Player after leading the league with 21.6 points per game. Abe also finished in the top 5 of the Region in rebounding and 3 point percentage.

Abdul Mohamed was named the Defensive Player of the Year after leading Shoreline to the best defense in the NWAC. The Phins lead the entire NWAC in opponents field goal percentage, opponents 3 point field goal percentage and opponents points per possession. Mohamed finished 3rd in the North Region in steals and was tasked with defending the best perimeter threat from each opponent.

Anddrew Hawkins was also recognized by the North Region coaches receiving All North Region Second Team honors. Hawkins’ influence on a basketball game can be found all over the stat sheet. He is the second leading scorer for the Phins with 12.5 points per game, second in assists with 3 per game and second in rebounds with 6 per game.

Enjunay Jones-Lee turned up on another awards list for her stellar work in the classroom. Jones-Lee and Men’s Basketball players Brady Anderson and Joe Ghebrehiwot were named to the NWAC All-Academic team. All three student-athletes have been committed in the classroom during their time at Shoreline and all three maintain a GPA above 3.5.
